"I want my music to be comforting" Story told by Javarr Terrell

Updated: Oct 5, 2020

Bethlehem,PA

Singer/Song Writer/Artist

Javarr tell us about yourself?

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and now I live in Bethlehem, PA and next worldwide! My mother has 9 kids, I am a fraternal twin, and I am 8 of 9 as well. We didn't grow up with a silver, gold, spoon in our mouths, we grew up in poverty until we were able to get out of it. It is a humbling experience because I reflect on the neighborhood, and the conditions we were around at the time. My biological mom was drawn to drugs which was very hard to see. Although she had challenges she always put food on the table showing her love for us.

What inspired you to become a music artist?

I went to one of my favorite broadway shows called "Waitress" and Jason Mraz was a guest star in the musical. He is one of my favorite male singers! In fact I received the opportunity to sing with him during a meet and greet which was inspiring to me. It was moments like this that triggered my motivation to actually create music and hopefully inspire many.

What challenges do you face as a music artist and how do you overcome them?

The most challenging thing that I face as a music artist is support. Dealing with the fact that you're not going to have everyone support you, it's important to have confidence, be able to sell yourself, prove that you can do it and remind yourself that you have value. Also the conflict in being stuck between making myself marketable and not having to ask people to listen to my music. My artistry and music should speak for itself and should naturally welcome those who love and appreciate my artistry.

What impact would you like to make with your music and why?

I hope my music can help make people feel at peace with themselves and to help embrace who they are. I want the lovers to love, and artist to be inspired by my music. I want people to take away a positive message from my music and furthermore help people to feel! Now what do I mean by feel? Because of the pandemic and day to day feelings that are misplaced and mixed with so many emotions I want my music to be that old friend with good advice when people are going through tough times. Music brings comfort to me and so I want my music to do the same for others..
